After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. (Mt 3:16)
I recently enjoyed a wonderful conversation about life and faith with a delightful young man. We were discussing past hurts and how they had left holes in our hearts. At one point, he suggested that perhaps the heart holes allowed our spiritual light to shine through for others to see, much like when we look up to the heavens and see shining stars.
I found this very insightful and timely, since it aligns well with our readings for this weekend. From Isaiah and Matthew’s Gospel, there is a common theme of light emanating out of servants who have been filled with the Holy Spirit.
As we get ready to jump into the first week of “anything but Ordinary” Time, are you letting others see your light? Let us strive to become a shining star for others; opening the eyes of the spiritually blind and rescuing those who are trapped in darkness.
Thank You to Deacon Luc Lambert for writing and sharing this reflection.
