Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” (John 8:11)
When I read this weekend’s Gospel reading, it rang in my ear and resonated in my heart, because I felt I had just read it earlier this week. On Tuesday, we heard from John’s Gospel on the healing of the man at the Bethesda Pool. After healing him, Jesus told the man, “Do not sin any more”. From this weekend’s Gospel, also from Saint John, Jesus tells the woman caught in adultery that He does not condemn her before telling her, “Do not sin any more”.
As we enter into the final stretch of our Lenten journey, this weekend’s second reading from Saint Paul reminds us to leave the already forgotten sins of our past behind us and to look forward, with great anticipation, on what lies ahead. For next Sunday is Palm Sunday, where we’ll relive the painful, but necessary Passion of our Lord before entering into Holy Week.
Thank You to Deacon Luc Lambert for writing and sharing this reflection!
